Meet Our Healthcare Consultants

Mike Reeve

Medfortune | In conjunction with MJM Gateway

It is a great pleasure to be part of the Medfortune team, working in a role I am deeply proud of: supporting internationally trained doctors and healthcare professionals—particularly from India—to access structured, ethical, and sustainable career opportunities in the UK, both Private and NHS, Europe, and the wider Commonwealth.

Professional Background and Experience

Over the past five years, my work has focused on building trusted clinical and institutional relationships between India and the UK healthcare system. I have been closely involved in the recruitment and professional integration of psychiatrists into the NHS, initially via the  Annual National Indian Psychiatry Conference (ANCIPS) , followed by structured programmes developed through Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with several leading Indian medical institutions.

As these collaborations evolved, our work broadened beyond psychiatry to include:

  • Anaesthetics
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Cardiology
  • Other medical specialties
  • Nursing and allied health professionals

During this period, approximately 1,000 healthcare professionals have successfully transitioned to UK practice with institutional support. In line with NHS ethical international recruitment principles, costs to individuals are kept to a minimum wherever possible, with employing organisations typically supporting visa processes, relocation pathways, and induction arrangements where applicable.

Why Medfortune

Medfortune particularly attracted me because of its education‑first, portfolio‑building model. International careers in healthcare—especially within the NHS and the UK—now requires a strong, verifiable professional portfolio that demonstrates:

  • Clinical competence
  • Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Alignment with GMC standards of Good Medical Practice
  • Understanding of UK healthcare systems and governance

Medfortune provides structured courses, mentorship, and career guidance to help doctors and healthcare professionals build these foundations realistically and ethically. The fact that over 450 candidates actively engage with the platform on a regular basis demonstrates the continued aspiration many professionals hold to develop internationally recognised careers.

My Role at Medfortune

In my role as Healthcare Consultant, I work alongside my colleague Jolee to:

  • Provide career guidance tailored to individual goals
  • Support portfolio development for UK, European, and Commonwealth healthcare systems
  • Advise on training pathways, equivalence routes, and workforce expectations
  • Help professionals and their families understand relocation realities and long‑term career planning

I do not promise outcomes—no ethical advisor should—but I do offer honest, informed guidance, grounded in real NHS and UK workforce experience and current recruitment standards and knowledge around all disciplines ( above and beyond Psychiatry)

Commitment to Ethical Practice

All guidance provided aligns with:

  • NHS values and workforce standards
  • GMC professional and ethical guidance

The priority is always safe practice, professional integrity, and long‑term career sustainability.

Looking Ahead

I look forward to working with doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals who are committed to building meaningful international careers through preparation, professionalism, and partnership.

Jolee Carrington

I am delighted to be part of Medfortune in my new role acting as a Consultant based here in the UK.

I have worked with Michael Reeve over the past 10 years and have been involved in overseas recruitment in the healthcare sector. The start of journey focussed on recruitment of Psychiatrists in 2019 but in 2022 the opportunities opened up to nurses, allied health professions and other areas within the medical profession.

When the journey started it was more difficult to recruit doctors into psychiatry in the UK, doctors needed to have either the plab or MRCpsych exam. We then learnt about the GMC sponsorship option and began work on becoming approved by the GMC so doctors could join an International Fellowship Scheme programme where they would be sponsored by an organisation and gain their GMC registration. This route made the recruitment much easier and I have gained knowledge and skills regarding the sponsorship programme and have now successfully recruited many doctors here in the UK. Many of those doctors who joined the sponsorship programme are now working all over the UK progressing their careers and they have worked hard to pass the necessary exams to become consultants on the specialist register.

It has been a privilege to work with some many overseas professionals, starting their journey in their home country, supporting them through all the necessary recruitment steps and then welcoming them into the UK. I take pride in getting to know the individuals and supporting them and their families to make the transition as smooth as possible.

I am excited to be part of the Medfortune team and support many ambitious people that wish to migrate and start a career in the UK. I hope that I can work with many of you in the future and make your goals become a reality.
